Boiler Upgrade Scheme

How does my boiler affect my heating costs?

Your boiler is one of the central components of your home’s heating system, responsible for generating hot water and heating your space. Its’ efficiency directly impacts your heating costs.

Energy Efficiency: Boilers are rated for their efficiency. Where an older boiler might have an Annual Fuel Utilisation Efficiency (AFUE) rating of 60-70%, meaning 30-40% of the energy used is wasted. Newer models often boast ratings of 90% or higher.

Fuel Consumption: An inefficient boiler consumes more fuel to produce the same amount of heat. This drives up your energy bills but also places more strain on your fuel supply. With fuel costs fluctuating, this can lead to unpredictable expenses.

Maintenance and Repairs: Older boilers generally require more frequent repairs and maintenance, which can add to your overall heating costs. As components wear out, they can become less efficient and more costly to fix.

How can I get a free boiler upgrade?

If your boiler is non-condensing, or over 15 years old and classed as inefficient, you could be entitled to a grant to pay for a free boiler upgrade through the ECO4 scheme.
