What is the Great British Insulation Scheme? (GBIS)
GBIS is a UK government initiative to improve the energy efficiency of British homes, helping to reduce their energy bills and reducing the carbon footprint of homes across the UK.
This forms part of the Department of Energy’s strategy to reduce Britain’s net demand for energy, contributing to the UK’s energy security.
A budget of £1 Billion over the scheme’s 3 year duration has been set with the aim of treating over 300,000 homes. With an average annual cost saving of £300-£400, those suffering from fuel poverty can really benefit from this scheme.
Free home insulation grants are available to many households across the UK.
As part of GBIS, the following measures could qualify for funding:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Flat or pitched roof insulation
- Loft insulation
- Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
- Park home insulation
- Room-in-roof insulation
- Solid floor insulation
- Underfloor insulation
